video codec

Hi, I am using X264 for video encoding but it looks slow for me and I am looking for another alternative video codec faster. Assuming speed is the most important factor, what is the fastest video codec ? Thanks

Ever tried XviD? Also x264 is better, you'll get clearer image for a lower video size.

The fastest codec for video encoding is limited to the speed of your processor.

To speed up encoding, use or upgrade to a faster processor.
If you choose not to do that then choosing another codec that is faster usually ends up with the video being in lower quality, its a very fine balance.

another point that is important :

your video encoder software has to SUPPORT the features of your processor...

example:
a video takes 15 minutes to encode on a notebook with nvidia GeForce go7600

but only 4 minutes on another notebook with on-board Intel HD2000

both have around 128 mb dedicated video memory...
both are on dual core processor boards

one is Sandy bridge mainboard, the other one older (core2duo Centrino) both are 1.8Ghz with Intel speed step

google for encoding software that uses your system at its best.

if you have a newer, Cuda capable nvidia, there is special software...

if you have a second notebook with Intel Hd - it might be faster than older tower pcs with dedicated graphic cards

The first poster is right x264 is pretty standard. Are you using a computer with a good processor by the way?
