I'll try resetting and logging in from a clean device to see if it helps. I also think maybe something on my phone triggered it

You mean you can't log in to your account on a new device, if so then you shouldn't log in from an unfamiliar device right away, Facebook might consider it suspicious. Try changing your password and two-factor authentication from a trusted device first, then log in again after your account is verified and stable.

Sounds like the device might be locked or flagged. Try logging in from a trusted device or network, then reset the password and 2FA. If that doesn’t work, contacting Facebook support is your best bet.

Try verifying it through Facebook’s security check or log in from a consistent IP/location for a few days before changing passwords or 2FA.

Try logging in from a trusted device and use backup codes for 2FA . New or unusual devices can cause Facebook to block changes.

You could check if the device’s app has permission issues affecting Facebook integration.

That sounds like the device might have been flagged or linked to previous suspicious activity. Try logging in from a fresh environment (clean IP, new browser, or different proxy) and see if it lets you update your password and 2FA.

Yeah sounds like Facebook’s security kicked in. It usually happens when you try to change stuff from a new or flagged device.
Best bet is to log in from a device or network you’ve used before, change everything there, then add your new device after.
If that still doesn’t fix it, a clean reset or reaching out to support should sort it out.

with new device not trusted facebook will not let you do that. try doing it on old device

Sometimes new devices trigger security blocks. Giving it some time and verifying your identity through Facebook’s security prompts usually helps unlock those features.

Consider using a completely different, secure device to log in, then update your password and 2FA there. Starting fresh on a new device can bypass the initial errors.

With new unreliable devices, you need to wait a while to change the password or use tricks to change the password.

I also had this problem. I often change my home IP network. Then it worked.

I had the same problem, couldn't change password and 2FA. Then I tried logging out of all devices and logging back in to fix it.

Because facebook is detecting strange devices logging into your account. It is also normal to protect your account. You can wait and use it for a few days, then come back to change your password and 2fa code.
