I tried to get a never used account (no photos, likes, followers, following, etc) since it was set up over 4 years ago. Had similar name to mine.
Contacted Instagram, no go unless I reply from the "now-non-existant" email that was used to create the account. Even sent them copy of ID and hand-written Instagram code. Oh well!

That's way deleted now. Instagram will delete accounts if they are inactive.

I wish it was deleted so that I could create one with the same name. It is still up on Instagram. I heard that Instagram deletes non-active accounts after 3 or 4 years, but I guess this one must be special. by the way, it's not a famous or known name, or something that everyone would like to jump on. It's just one that's similar in name, but no hyphen or underscore in the name.
If anyone knows of a cut off date for inactive accounts (those with no photos, profile photo, likes, etc), please let us know.

Once an account either is banned or deleted, you can't use the username.
And i'm pretty sure instagram deletes way quicker, like maybe 1 year inactivity

Depends tho there'a account with like 2-3 yeas inactivity but sue to their OG names people keep commenting ie making it active
