lets say you have a website with 10 pages.

For every page you have targeted another keyword.
When you want to rank a page beside the homepage, do you backlinks have to point to that particullar page or to the rootdomain?

I am not 100% sure, but I think they should point to the page that is targeting the keywords you are building backlinks for.

    Good question supereek,

There are a couple different factors here. In general the answer to your question is yes. All other things being equal, the more links leading to a specific page, the better that page will rank in search. Keep in mind that Google and other engines rank pages and not websites. When you search for a specific phrase, the engine returns the most relevant document and not the most relevant website as a whole. So if there is a page you want to rank for a specific keyword phrase, not only is it good to make all the content on that page related to your key term, but having backlinks to the page also helps bolster its credibility (assuming they are good links).

The other factor here is anchor text of the link to that specific page. Any good link will help the page however if you can get anchor text that is relevant or the exact key term you are trying to rank the page for, this is very beneficial.

Here is an interesting post on deep linking strategies,

    Hope that helps,

You have to point your links to the particular page for more effect of the links.

I am 100% sure you need to point them to the particular page. However, in order to increase the authority of the whole domain, you should make some of generic anchor links to the rootdomain also.

Use deep linking to rank your inner pages and send links to your home page to increase the authority of the domain. Vary the type of link and anchor text for all the links.
