I found a longtail keyword with very low SD (I used ubersuggest) but this long tail keyword is this: "what is [main keyword]"

The main keyword has very high SD and search volume but the longtail one has only 1k plus.
Is this longtail keyword good? Any thoughts?

Choosing the right keyword depends on your goals. A low search volume, low competition long-tail keyword can target a specific audience and result in high conversions. Remember to consider relevance, user intent and niche competition when picking keywords.

Of course, I have been targeting low-competition keywords for a while now, and it has been really good. You can then push this traffic with internal links to your higher-competition articles and keywords. Low competition and long-tail keywords have a lot of potential.

If the main keyword is a difficult keyword, chances are this 'what is ***' version would equally be somewhat difficult.

Check the pages ranking on page 1 for the long tail version, you would likely some pages that target the main keyword. If they're all very strong sites, it would be difficult to win on the keyword.

But you can give it a short, all it would cost you is time to write the content. This is assuming you're bot building a brand new site.

If you can create a topical map and create content around this topic and other keywords including the main keyword, your chances becomes higher.

it's not a good keyword IMO because keywords that start with "what is..." can easily be answered by PAA or wikipedia, and google will favor these over you
exactly my thoughts too

Google the keyword in an incognito window with a VPN server in your target country. Check the first page and see if the question “what is XYZ” answered.

If multiple results are answering the question, it’s not an easy keyword. Regardless of what Ubersuggest says.

It is the long tail keyword but as @tazarbm said Google will consider more trusted sites over your site. However, you can use this keyword to rank better on SERP and better traffic conversion. You can also change the tile formation to diverse the query.

I will avoid such keyword. Google will literally show the answer on search. So, you shouldn’t expect traffic when you rank page 1.

Check the SERPs manually for sites that rank for long-tail keywords. The competitors' ranking for the main keyword will probably be the same as for the long-tail keyword. Likewise, "what is _____" will provide Wikipedia results as well as YouTube videos. Honestly, I don't think this is a smart idea.

I think not a good choice tho, that's why that long tail keyword got low competition search volume. Google showed answer promptly then why the users want to waste their time

Yes, it will be very effective once you get started
