Well thank you everyone, I tried around 20 of these ideas, most were flops.
One that did work well is pva.gg which was listed on one of the links someone sent. Others might work but I stopped trying them after I found this.
You sign up, pay with PayPal, they actually accept your payment without a hassle, and give you the SMS you want for around $1 or $2 each. Mine was strangely in my own area code, which I'm hoping was a fluke if I ever need to use it again.
The SMS number only lasts around 15 minutes and then it disappears, which is long enough to verify a web site.
I think they might also have long-term numbers if you need that instead, but I didn't get into any of that. I had to wait around 5 minutes for the verification code to come in, so don't lose hope if if doesn't show up immediately.
