Somehow Google Chrome released an update where as soon any one manual navigation happens, they know it's not chrome. More here

But the normal user normal browser qr code request from Gmail should never happen unless something very funny is being done.

Basically if Google throws the qr code at you, they have zero trust in the users, they build profiles based on risk levels.
