There is no phone verification on Pinterest. He probably posted in the wrong section.

I'm sorry, I was wrong (mistaken with function notification on phone). Indeed Pinterest doesn't require to verify by phone. Today it's rare

There are different situations to verify your accounts.Sometime the accounts can be verified by using only emails but sometimes it requires the phone verification.You can say that it depends on the mood of site.
