Feel like the best way to get it verified is to create multiple accounts under your name. Maybe wait for like a month or two and post various pictures then get in contact show all these fake accounts and request that your lawyer or some shit says that its hurting the brand and needs to get addressed asap. While you are waiting for them to respond you could make more accounts and email them a second time saying you're not trying to bug them but its really becoming a problem. Bonus: add people messaging you how they don't know whoose account is who and which one is real. Never tried it so this is all theoretical but its worth the try. The more followers you have the more they'll probably help

I think your method is good.
To create fake accounts, you need different IP, phone numbers... Need the help of several people to do this.
 
Don't bother with the fake accounts impersonating you method, it doesn't work. I already tried it.. hired a guy on fiverr to create a bunch of accounts with names similar to mine from IPs in Africa, upload some of my content to each, and follow a few hundred of my followers to get some of them to follow back and engage... I had no problem getting IG to remove the impersonating accounts a few months later, but absolutely no effect on my plan to get verified, and I represent a legit minor celebrity.

You need a decent plug first.
 
Size of the account doesn't mean anything, it should be recognized (famous) then Instagram will verify it.
