So recently I read about the Enterprise Level accounts, and to be honest I thought it was a bit over the top for some sellers. I've had a change of heart recently after seeing how many "reputable" members have turned out to either flat out be someone else, or in some cases the same person using different usernames, or just a flat out scammer. I was thinking about ways to curb some of it that wouldn't include having to spend the kind of money that an Enterprise account would cost. I was going to suggest maybe a "Verified" level account. There's other reasons for this that I think could help the overall community immensely as well. Even if the Verified option was a small nominal fee, of say $10 or tops $25, you could make it affordable for so many more people. There's a lot of sellers that would love to let people know they're not here to scam, but either can't afford, or don't need all of the extra stuff included in the Enterprise level account. Obviously the exact $ would be a question of costs in labor, and storage, but I'm just thinking aloud there. The idea would be to make it available to as many members as possible because I believe that it would help the sellers just as much as the customers. A lot of sellers put themselves, and their Paypal, or whatever account they use to collect payment, at risk everytime they deal with someone. They can live up to their end of the deal 100% and because the other person didn't get the results they hoped, they fire off a chargeback. That's now going to effect the seller just as bad as any customer getting scammed. On the opposite end, you have new members joining and looking to buy services. It can take them weeks to months to establish enough posts, or enough of an "identity" to be trusted by sellers. If they were verified from the start that wouldn't be nearly as big an risk for sellers to take on. I guess nothing will ever stop people from being short sighted and trying to chase the fast dollar, but I do believe that there wouldn't be tremendous overhead involved in something like this. I also think that if presented the benefits to both sides that it would take off and become a cheaper alternative to showing potential customers or buyers that they're not here to scam anyone. Most people would be a whole lot less likely to try and scam someone if they're actual name was attached to their account. I don't mean you have to make the name public even, but having it on record for any kind of accusations or problems, along with something small to let people know that, maybe a little start or something by their name. I guess it'd be similar to the way Twitter does it. I understand there's a lot of things that would need to be taken into account in doing something like this, but I really do think that it would be a huge benefit to everyone without having to make any huge changes. I just got done reading a handful of SL threads, and you just never know who's who, or who's pretending to be who. Anyway, I know I probably didn't put that together in the best way possible, but I was kind of thinking aloud as I was writing it. Have a good day everyone.
