Hi, I'm looking into forum software. I read a lot of hate towards vbulletin 4+ but then lots of people say it is the best forum, etc. Is this maybe a case that people hate it because it isn't perfect but still the best one around?

Should I get vbulletin 4 in the secondary market or just try something else?

It really comes down to what type of support and stability do you want for your money. There are plenty of free open source forum software(s) you can use, that work just fine for smaller forums.

I recently installed PHPBB and it's ok. I do like the professional look of Vbullletin... I just can't stomach the yearly licensing cost.
