value of subdomain links

Is there any advantage to getting links from say:
xxxx.domain.com/page1
zzzz.domain.com/page1

over getting links from:
xxxx.domain.com/page1
xxxx.domain.com/page2

Is there any advantage to getting links from different subdomains over getting links from different pages of a site?

I've read that google is taking subdomains almost like different domains. So go for the first option
