Value of Links WITHOUT anchor text

I was waiting for someone to touch on this, but nada.

Have you looked at the ranking of the keyword term/phrase that makes up your domain or page name?

I am going to assume that when you sent out this link it was something like:

yourkeyworddomain.com

Or perhaps (and even better)

yourkeyworddomain.com/my-targeted-page.html

Have you checked to see if the 'phrase' for your domain is showing at all? This effectively becomes the anchor in the absence of one.

Check it out and let us know.

Hey If you a listing in google maps, or yahoo local, it seems the DO NOT want anchor text, but they also want the address and phone number of the business...

Anyone experience any different??

Talk about backlinks and anchor text, right?
 
Recently purchased a service for high PR profile links to test this...not 3k, but about 500 per site. No improvemnt in SERPS just yet....it has been about 2 weeks.
 
You need anchor texts, and if you are doing just pure backlinks with no anchor like an image they need to be on high PR sites.
 
Back links with no anchor text have of course less value. But it's always good to mix in some of those links anyways. It doesn't look normal to Google if a website would only get back links with anchor text.

I vaguely recall something about google treating these kind of links without anchor as a contextual mention rather than a link. It still has value, but not in the way anchor links do. I wish I could remember where I read about this.

Have you checked on what I asked about? If your URL term has ranked at all? If your domain is yourkeywordhere.com and you search for 'your keyword here' does it come up any better? How about when you try 'yourkeywordhere' ?
 
Can someone tell us newbies which article directories offer anchor text back links ? I am assuming that a anchor text on a keyword that points to that word in your website is a anchor text ? I have just started doing article submissions and have included what i call anchor text but these were not published just the websites url. I never realized how much work is needed after a website is published - at this rate i will be drawing my pension before i get a decent pr :-)
 
That's generally assuming the URL is the "anchor." If he put something generic like Click Here or a Smiley Face, then the text surrounding the link will come into play.

Good point though, a link with the URL as the anchor can be quite handy if you use a keyword rich URL.

I think google bases it on where the link is placed. For example, if you write an article and publish it for the sake of a backlink, then anchor text is 100% ok.

On the other hand, if you have things such and comments, bookmarks, and forum posts, then more times then not, you would not have any anchor text.

This just seems more natural and makes sense, since general users would not know about the anchor text.
 
People here are saying stuff like "No anchor test: 20%, anchor text: 80%" - Yes, this might be true, but keep in mind that you want to keep things NATURAL. In a real natural example, 50% of the backlinks are probably without anchor text, probably even more. Perhaps it's worth it to do a good percentage as no anchor text, that way it'll all look natural to Google and you'll surely get a good ranking, compared to putting too many anchor text backlinks and Google penalizing you. I know this is a topic many people won't agree on.. But it's all about what you focus on. Long-term, or short-term rankings. I have chosen with myself to try to make things look very natural to Google, which IMO should give better results than just pumping links out there. But it's only my opinion, you'll probably have your own. Hope this helps!
 
Seriously, we all try to build links to make it looks natural but is there really "normal" websites out there who get backlinks naturally?

Webmasters are getting into SEO more and more. What will happen when almost everyone will build links by their own. What will become the definition of "natural" then..?

I feel you missed my point, though. Let's say you see this awesome site explaining about soccer. You want to tell your friend about it on this forum. What do you do? Start inserting a lot of a href stuff to make it look all pretty? No, you simply write "Hey check this site www.site.com" - I would guess that if a site naturally goes viral, about 75% of links or more are without anchor text. I believe that links with anchor text help more, obviously, but some people just overdo it, and while it does give a positive effect in the SERPs, people could have gotten a far bigger effect (if they had used less href links) because they were partly penalized by google. It's all just opinions, though, and there's no proof behind.. But I feel it's a good explanation for most of the posts I've seen.

That makes sense. What I am waiting to hear from OP about is if his domain name has come up at all in the SERPs. I can understand how Google wouldn't be able to use these links directly as a means of identifying certain keyword terms to associate with his site, but if the URL of the site itself is the keyword, then they should identify at least that.

It is also possible on the flip side that without the mix of anchor text links, this campaign will exert no effect. The right 'mixture ratios' of link types have not been met, and therefore google won't add the site to the search mix. I have talked about this with another poster somewhere else here in regards to nofollow/d0follow and social signal / pr link mixtures as a necessary formula for results both short and long.
 
From my understanding, even if the domain is the anchor text and it is a keyword rich domain then in essence you still get the benefit of the anchor text.

Example: You are trying to rank for best dog training tips

your website is bestdogtrainingtips.info

You've got your anchor text right there. Search engines parse the words in domain url's even without having hyphens.
