Validate or Roast my SaaS idea - A subscription service for e-mail lists

Hello BHW,

Nowadays I am pretty hyped about a side project I'm planning to do, and your perspective may help me straighten up my mind.

I will keep it short. Also, please note that I didn't build the product yet so I'm not promoting anything.

The project

I am planning to build a subscription service that lets you filter a mailing list amongst a pre-existing e-mail database (for sales and marketing purposes)

The concept will be simple:

1. You will filter as you wish
   1. Like, "Marketing Directors" in "Illinois"
   2. or, "SEO Agencies" in "The United States"
2. You'll be given a mailing list with first and last names + verified and up-to-date e-mails.

Simple, quick.

The pricing will be on subscription basis:

• $19/mo — 5 lists per month — 200 mails per list
• $49/mo — You got the concept.

I have roughly 800,000 verified e-mails in my database for now. Planning to make it 2m before launch.
(All e-mails are obtained via web scraping.)


What do you think about the idea? Yay or Nay? Roast or validate as you wish

I saw a website with similar idea few years back in franklin hatchett's course on affiliate marketing. I remember its called udimi.com. Check it out to get more idea.
There are facebook groups doing this kinda thing too.

You'll need way more than 2M to start.

How are you gonna sort duplicates overtime?

Yes, that's what I thought too. Same thing, only more accessible and cost-effective.

They don't seem to be doing the same business I had in my head. But I surfed their site for hours, seems like you have introduced me a good resource for my marketing Do you have any experience with them (udimi)? Sounds good on paper

That's also my concern. But I gotta start somewhere, then reinvest the money in my spiders to expand the database. I believe 2m (Tier1 countries) contacts will be more than enough for a white hat guy to filter through.

That's the easiest part. I use MongoDB for such projects. Just create a unique index for the fields you want to keep unique, and let the DB do the rest.

I maintain a MongoDB database of ~200m tweets and counting. Not a single duplicate

No, like you said it's too good to be true.
Problem with buying email lists is they get sold again and again and so the subs are already spammed.

Some people had 2 million bucks and they lost in SaaS business. SaaS is crazy shit.

I personally wouldn't do SaaS that didn't make me $100k+. So I wouldn't do SaaS at all huh.

We are talking about 2M verified emails in his database to launch not $$

Why not do something like getsponsorleads?
