Me and my wife treat it like any other day in the year - why the hell must we bend to a so called 'special day' created by the retail sector to flog more shite cards, sell chocolate by the bucketload and double the price of flowers.

If you are with someone special, then everyday should be like valentines day, no need to make a special event.

If you are single, its just another day to make you hope that someone special will come along - again, that could happen every day, you got to make the opportunity, not wait for some poxy overpriced piece of crap in a shop to appear so you can ask someone to get close.

Call me cynical, Valentines day is bullshit - haven't celebrated it with my wife since we got together over 15 years ago.

For me its not valentines day, its chinese new year. Firecrackers going off under my window until 2am everyday for a week.. all my suppliers and delivery companies on holiday for 2 weeks, then spending 2 weeks catching up, so about 1 month delay on all my activities.. therefore that is the only time of year I can actually take a holiday, this year going to Xiamen with the wife :)

Going to celebrate it working in my office , lol .. Single for last 3 years :)

For me & my lover, " Everyday - valentine day "

Valentine day is also termed as lover's day right ? It means, the day with your lover is called "lover's day"

Thanks.
Bart

I haven't read any replies to this thread but I have a very strong view on Valentines day.

I think dedicating one day to your loved one is RIDICULOUS. I'm sorry, but I do. People feel obligated to buy their partner things or make gestures because of this date. And what does it even mean?

Since day one of each of my relationships, I have had the consideration to remind my partner daily what he means to me. I may not go all out constantly, but I believe each day should be treated the same way some people view valentines day.

Each day together should be spent with kindness, caring and communication. I may not be able to have proper quality time every day with my man due to our lifestyles, but I make the effort in small ways to remind him he is loved. Whether that is telling him, holding him / cuddling randomly throughout the day, a small gesture such as a cup of tea or snack brought over and simply picking up something as it reminded me of him.

I don't like the thought of people feeling obliged to buy their partners chocolates and flowers and take them out because its the 14th of February!! Your anniversary can be for a dinner date or something of that nature. But treat each day like your last and show people what they mean.

Yeah, I think if you need a special day to care about your loved one then its already bad as it is. Even though I'm single :D Valentine's day is just another attempt of the government to boost GDP (and suicide rate as a side effect). The whole thing reminds me of the 'Day of the dead/deceased', another special day we have here in Hungary. I don't know if its celebrated anywhere else at all, but its at the same time as Halloween. The concept is similar to Valentine's, but in this case, they put the overpriced flowers and/or candles on the deceased relative/friend's grave. Last year I had this conversation with my mother:
her: Do you want to come to the graveyard?
me: not really...
her: OMG I cant belive u dont care about your grandparents! you can't be this lazy!
Then I told her I don't need a special day to remember my loved ones, and I don't even have to go to the graveyard to do so. If their resting place would be the only place one can honor their memory, it would be quite cruel to put them in a cementary in the first place, no?
Ofcourse I do visit them occosionally, but never because society has set a day for me to do so.
I think similarly about every mayor 'special day' BTW.
