Using wordpress.com as web2.0 - Why don't they use captcha?

It is strange for me but I don't get any captcha. Do they use some other means to combat bots?

Well, I did get an account blocked when I used the words "sponsored by" so I believe they use content checkers to ensure that they are not spammed to death.

It seems they can catch spammers a lot easier these days and don't always need to utilize capcha's.
