Using Tags In Wordpress

I was wondering if its bad to use long tail keywords in my post tags.

Also how many post tags are to many?

I feel like lately ive been getting really carried away with tosing in tons of post tags and I dont want this to hurt me.

I'd avoid them altogether, especially after Panda. If you do use tags for the sake of your users, make sure the tag result pages are noindexed, and I'd do nofollow too.

Using all the tags you want isn't really blackhat, but it will trigger false positives if you let all that stuff get indexed.

I Disagree with dannyhw iv always used long tail keywords for my tags and I get a lot of traffic from them.

Traffic to the tag results page or the posts? If you go overboard, adding multiple tags to each post, you can end up indexing a whole bunch of pages that are just made up of the same snippets of posts.

If you want to check how bad it is you can just do a site: search on your domain and see if any tag pages come up as supplemental. It gets particularly bad when pagination is involved too.

I only do it because I noticed that if I see what pages of my site are indexed, every tag is indexed as a seperate page. I see some of my older sites pulling some great traffic from the tags but I didnt go nuts with as many when I created those.

I do see that if I have say 10 tags for a single post than it looks like duplicate content.

i prefer not to use tags coz u lost link juice over ur site and have many supplemental results in google, why do u need tags in case its nofollow? just use text "tags: keyword1, keyword2, keyword3" in the end of ur post... right?

I have a plugin called search terms tagging which creates tags based upon the terms my site comes up for. Seems to bring more traffic and no issues with indexing. I would think google has wp figured out by now. I think as long as your theme isnt busted you should be fine using tags. I agree about not going ape-shit with them but they seem to help.

You sure it's sandbox? Did you try a site: search of your domain? Sandbox is usually from adding links to a new site this fast. I bet if you just left the tags but installed the noindex plugin you'd dance a little then be fine.
