Using stock images - will hurt SEO?

we are always intended to download stock images and use it in our website. But contrary to this one website saying using stock images will hurt our seo since most of the corporate companies using stock images and our image will be consider as duplicate.

What is your take on this?

I believe OPs is referring to using stock images from places like Pixabay or Pexels.

Places where it´s FREE to download the images and use them for commercial purposes because they come with a royalty-free license.

This will obviously affect our SEO

Anyhow, I am actually wondering the same thing...

It doesnt hurt at all - even if you do not have the rights it doesnt hurt as google doesnt know who has got the rights.

Just do the following...

1. Set the file name to your keyword
example:

kw: eat burgers
-> picture is called eatburgers

2. Compress and Change to jpg for faster loading
-> eatburgers.jpg

3. Set alt tag
-> eatburgers.jpg alt tag would be eat burgers


Done.. tried it. works all the time no matter what image i use. (I recommend that you are using copyright free images to ensure you are not getting into legal trouble)

If your website is reported for copyright claims that is obviously bad.

no mate. I am saying it in both case. Even in original website more people will end up with using same image.

In that case @Mr Positive is right!

Stealing other´s people content can´t be good for SEO.

Google is not dumb.

You can do an image reverse lookup on Google and see where an image has been posted before.

And in regards to using images from free stock image platforms such as pixabay and pexels just follow the advice from @A7strohhut and you´ll be fine.

If everyone downloads the same image, uses the same alt tags etc, then they are the same, but just modify and rename etc.

You're over thinking this in all honesty.

Exactly you are right. A stock image can affect your SEO. But if you want to use an image from stock images then firstly cut that image and then make some changes in photoshop or any other platform to make it unique. After that, you can use that image.

Yes better to have some changes and use it. this is what most of them suggest.
 
LoL images affecting SEO. Gtfo... just rename all files/alts or edit them... this is 0% important for SEO tbh
 
if its license-free for commercial use, slap a logo or some text on it.
 
There are many tools to make the same image different, anw i doubt it will affect the rank today, but once the google vision deployed then it can change the landscape
 
I think stock fotos run for seo for the Moment. But Google has the technologies to identify the same pictures on different websites. So maybe they will use them in the future. Then it will be better to use unique pictures.

thank u all, Yes for safer side we should made some changes in the image.
 
You could always use Paint to add a little dot in the corner of the picture. That way it will be unrecognizable.
 
I’m only scared using someone’s image for legal purposes not Google bot/ SEO
 
This is a HUGE case of over-thinking.

I've never heard of anyone trying to make unique images. All the amazon review sites are just using amazon's images, but it doesn't stop them ranking. Google isn't expecting every webpage to come up with its own completely unique images. That would be madness. Content has to be unique, not images.

Using stock images, using images from another website or any other sort of image will have NO negative effect on your SEO.
