    Hi there,

Don't know if this is spoken of before... Couldn't find anything relevant in search and if i missed it, i apologize.

I always wonder as who you market yourself on the internet. Do all these internet guru's use there real name on everything? And how to decide if to use it or not?
Personally, I find this a hard one since i dont like my real name linked to something that people could see with the risk it's not gonna work out in the end and you start promoting something else. On the other hand it seems nice and gives trust to people if they see your real name and you don't have to put up an internet mask.

How do you guys do this?
You always use your real name, only sometimes, never?

    Cheers
    Mc

If it's backhat don't use your real name. White hat use your real name. Pretty simple concept.

Exactly. Only put your name on stuff that you will not have to worry about.

You can also use it for branding purposes (think top aff marketers).

    Cheers

well.. even if it's white hat, I wouldn't use my real name--simply because of privacy reasons. I don't know about you, but I don't like the idea of people snooping around with my business or my personal life.

If you care about your privacy, then don't use a real name.

    I agree with Quattro.

Once I had searched my Mom's name on the internet and was able to pull up her home address, phone number, and place of work, etc. Strange thing, my mom doesn't use the internet much. She doesn't even use her CC online.

After that, I stuck to using nicknames or fake names.

If you're smart you'll follow in the footsteps of the big guys. Ask moderators and people that know this world.

Never ever put anything that can be easily traced back to you on the internet.

One of the best things you can do is setup an LLC and get paid that way.

Business name is the way to go. Even got a bank account with the name of my business on it.

Also, it does help a bit to be married to a non-American and living abroad.:D

Business name ok, but what do you set on squeeze pages?
Just a fictive name like 'Ben Dover' and your company at the bottom.
People can't find out who the real owner of that company is?

I've wondered about this too, especially when signing up with email marketing services like Aweber. Can you use a fake name for it?
