I always use WHOIS privacy when buying a domain. I've often had the problem (at least 75% of the time) that when I sign up to web hosting with fake details, my account gets blocked due to different names on the credit card, I then get an email telling me to send in identification which obviously I can't provide.

Is it ok to use my real name when signing up to web hosting as it isn't viewable to the public? Or is there a way around this?

Thanks.

Public can't see your hosting details only they can see domain details. But you can change the setting into privacy.

Just buy the whois privacy and you'll be fine.

You can register hosting with your own name. They're not allowed to share that information.

yes and no. they'll not do this without any reason, but they'll share your details by request as well

Some hosts like namecheap ask you to enter your details twice - one for account (billing) info and one for domain ownership info. There's a legitimate need for this - web designers for instance who buy domains for their clients.

It looks like you're using registrars who just duplicate billing info into whois info - in which case you'll have problems with fake registrant details.

No need to use different/fake name for hosting if you are using cheap hosts, or any shared hosts really, Google can't see that. And if you are using whois privacy, you are 100% safe.

Yes, but as long as you don't use any domains for your PBN that have some popular trademark in them, this will never happens.

Only registar's information is public so do whatever you want with hosting.

I use JustHost with a different sign up name to the name on my credit card and they have never said anything.

Paying with PayPal get's around your issue. It's my belief that using your real name for whois...

The account details of your server are not visible for Google crawl spiders, everybody above is right, as long you get your whois privacy you should be safe

True, law enforcement can get your info. But for the purposes of PBNs, Google does not have access to that data.

Google can have access to anything if they want ;) they have both the power and money to buy/access any information. To sleep better at night, I would ALWAYS register with fake details and use VCC-s as I said above.

user your actual details to purchase.. make sure u enable whois privacy guard so it wont be revealed.

FFS, no. There are laws in place to prevent that. And to think that they did and used it to find some insignificant blackhatters is idiotic.
