Think you could use MassPlanner to comment on people pictures tagging your main account in it? Has anyone tried to do this?

dude, that's just a basic comment feature you need and both FL and MP can do that. What people here refer as a mention is something different tho.

Sure, MassPlanner can do that, but it's not called mentions, it's just a normal comment.

Mentions are when you scrape usernames and tag them in the comments of your post.
