Using Keyword Density, Matt Cutts advice - And what really works?

He says many things in his videos but usually it is generalized and never a specific "do this and you will get better results"

For instance he says ignore "keyword density" it is not important... spend your time focusing on other advertising for your business. I used to place strong emphasis on keyword density per page based upon competition for onsite SEO and got great results for the most part but it was time consuming. I tried ignoring this method on two sites recently and my results are crap.

I've had the same question Scott. I've noticed keyword density being stressed by some and not by others. IMO, since you've were getting results following a keyword density strategy that did bring you some profit, then you should stick with it. Not everything needs to be short cut, particularly if it works and the two sites that struggled should tell you to use the keyword density strategy that was working. Hope this helps or adds to the thread.

It is my thought that maybe Matt Cutts would not want to spoon feed everybody in SEO with a blueprint of exactly what to do for SEO... he would want others t owork at it and learn through trial and error. I feel it matters and can be thr breaking point, maybe others will chime in.

I have read few latest SEO blue-print and they all do mention and suggest "keyword density" should above 2% but less than 6%.

I like keyword elite's search engine dominator for this. It will list the keyword density of each of the top 10 results for the given keyword phrase. It will also average those out and give you the percentage as well. Takes the guess work out of what is ranking.
