Hey guys, Hostgator has assured me that for my product launch tomorrow I'll be fine. I'll be selling an eBook which is downloadable from the server, I could easily get 2000 visitors in an hour, I could potentially have 100 people buy the book in 24 hours - will they suspend me? They've promised not to, but I can't afford for it to happen. Anyone with experience would be much appreciated, Cheers, JC
Shoot me a PM, I can work something out for you cheaper than Hostgator, and your "we wont supsend you promise" won't get lost between support techs
If you're expecting 2000 visitors an hour, *NOBODY* will hold up to that on shared hosting. You need atleast a VPS. Plus not 100% their fault... if you made the site require 1mb to load vs 50k to load, two very very different outcomes there.
While I do feel your pain and we could have worked something out 20Mbps is a ridiculous transfer rate for you to expect a shared hosting company to sustain, most VPS's dont even come with 20 Mbps most are on 10Mbps lines
ive never gotten suspended with HG. right now i have ~ 20 blogs off their reseller package. tbh ive tried a shit ton of hosts but i keep going back to HG for some reason
I use Amazon S3 cloud to serve all static files. It is ridiculously cheap, and you could have hundreds of thousands of visitors an hour and it won't even be a blip for their server capacity.
+1 You'll want a large scale cloud service like Amazon S3 to deliver static files (images and videos especially as these will really bump up server usage). I think Rackspace offer a similar service as well (with better support), but I'm not entirely sure.
i never got any problem with hostgator before, and i've launched tons of products with it. I guess ordinary host plan work okay.
