Has anyone tried this idea? A friend of mine recently told me about how she enters tons of online sweepstakes to get free stuff. There are websites online that list the sweepstakes for her to enter. She visits the link, follows the direction on screen to enter. I checked out the website and it seems like there are alot of blogs offering these sweepstakes. They claim to be giving away gift cards, clothes, ipods, ipads and virtually every other item you can think of.

That got me thinking.

Seems like it would be a good idea to create a sweepstakes on your blog and then try to get it included in these sweepstakes directories. People using the site would find the link, and want to enter the sweepstakes to get whatever item is being offered. Might be a way to get a decent amount of traffic and make some money from PPC ads.

When the sweepstakes ends, just announce a fake winner to make it look legit.

Thoughts on this idea? Seems like it would be worth a shot.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there is also a site software called rafflecopter that allows visitors to enter the sweepstakes by doing certain things. For example, they could like your facebook page for 1 entry or subscribe to your youtube channel for another. That might be another way to get free facebook likes + youtube subs.

I actually had a friend who did this with a facebook fan page!

He had a sweepstakes where 3 randomly people would receive $50 gift cards to Amazon if they liked and shared his page

In a week he had over 20,000 likes on his fan page and I think it continue to grew... So it definitely works

But it'd probably work out a lot better if you just invested in a real sweepstakes :P I mean it's an investment it pays off !

I did this but raffle was not fake. It is a great method to gain real social signals and presence. You can get quality backlinks from real bloggers and so on. You just need a catchy prize and steady traffic.
You can submit your raffle on these sites:

Yes, sweepstake does the trick on my new fanpage when introducing new products for my local biz. I will buy ads and then offer visitors to the page, those who liked my page and share the most to their frds will stand a chance to get the new product for free. I just spent ard $20 a wk on ad to have more than 1000 new fans, n it kept increasing as fans intro fans' fans n so on.....
