Using DMOZ as a tier. May I?

I have this site that got listed in DMOZ the last year and I was thinking about the possibility of blasting the DMOZ page with Scrapebox and GSA links, for the sake of experimenting.

What do you think? In your opinion, could it have any effect? I'm pretty much a newbie in tiered linkbuilding and I keep doing tests, but this site that got the link from DMOZ is one that I put some effort on so it would be a shame if it gets a spank from daddy G.

EDIT: I know that there is a thread from 2012 asking the same thing, but I would like some updated answers.

You should use contextual links as tier 1s.

DMOZ is no longer a holy grail SEO link for websites.

Creating 5-10 manual web 2.0's as tier 1 will do more good to your site instead of just blasting that DMOZ page.

To answer the question, I wouldn't tier spam it. A small handful of social shares of forum posts (posts in thread, NOT the other crap) should be a good though. Just be light with it. A blast would be a horrible idea.

DMOZ still has some authority in Google's eyes, however they are not near the authority they once had

Never tried that, but it's a waste of time imo. Dmoz links aren't that powerful these days, so even if you blast it you probably won't gain more than one or two positions in the serp.

Why not give it a try. DMOZ still has plenty of authority so the chances of it tanking as a result are less than a personally owned money site.

In fact if the many failed attempts to tank a wiki page with spam have taught us nothing its that a strong authority page is not easy to get slapped with a penalty.
