Using content from Google Books on Web 2.0's - Duplicate content?

I was wondering if Google considers content from books which they have indexed in their "Google Books system" on web2.0's (or moneysites) as duplicate content? I'm just speaking theoretically of course. Any one tried this?

Yes, it is duplicate content; if you want to use content from books / old newspapers, etc. then you better go to a library (do they still exist?), scan million pages, then use software to get the text from the scanned pages. Theoretically speaking of course

That's another option

but most books are indexed in Google Books already so it wouldn't make any difference if you scan the content from real books or just copy it from Google Books.

From my modest personal experience the google books method can work for supporting pages.

I'll try to explain what I did. I had a site that was targeting keywords like "article on ..." and "articles about ...". I was targeting a keyword like "article on human trafficking." So I made a text of about 4000-5000 words copied from 3-4 google books and put it on a page with meta title like "Article on Human Trafficking - ArticleSite.com". In 3-4 days it was #1 in google.

I see. Thanks for clearling that up. Do you think it can also be used for backlinking?

Why not? Moreover, in the example above I have never done ANY linkbuilding to my page. Still it ranked #1

Yeah I'm might give this a try but are you sure you just copy pasted that content? I just don't wanna get flagged for dupe content on my 1th tier..

Forget it. Dupe content penalty only applies when you have a duplicates on your own 1 site. If you have a content copied from other site - it's ok.

There has got to be something in the algorithm that excludes books and news articles from being considered duplicate content. If that was the case, press release distribution would be a bad thing. So would news services, book club discussions, and all sites that copy excerpts from books and the news. I think you'll be fine if you copy book contents.

Oh man are you wrong about that! Dupe content from your site will certainly hurt your site from an SEO point of view but dupe content from other sites might get you site de-listed.
