using a new site for amazon worth it?

I have been using an old expired domain for amazon aff. and somehow looks like the website has some algorithm penalty and for the last 3 month I can't even rank top 100.

I'm thinking I should just create a new site and work with it .

But knowing a lot of people use expired and strong domain do you think I can make it? Or I will just lose my time and money for a negative ROI?

Personally I say, go with a new site. I have tried expired domains and it is pot luck if you get a good one, or one that is penalised. You can do all the checks but still get one which is penalised, whereas a fresh domain just takes a few months to build on with decent content and you are good to go. Assuming your KW is relatively easy.

I found that 2 domains I researched and purchased were penalised when I added them to GWC but I appealed and the penalty was removed. However, I still do not use them for money sites as I do not trust them! Others have been fine.

Buying domains from people like @Nargil before they drop is a different kettle of fish. You can get a decent domain with quality links and no penalty, which is a big boost for medium/hard difficulty KW's.

You almost "not have to do anything in link building" if you pick great enough

1. Focus on auction domain. (Namejet or Godaddy these place will give you the list of high quality domain)
2. Check metrics : DA, > 30 TF > 25, CF >20 , Domain Rating > 35
3. Here is the key : at least 1 edu or 1 gov link ( must be natural link if the link in middle of content is perfect)
4. Check each backlink by yourself from ahrefs.com (ahrefs.com is the best tools 2018 for check link history)
5. Check old history from wayback machine and screenshot

If you get this kind of domain that related to your niche, This is the shortcut for you to start amazon affiliate.

Thanks for this piece of advice. Do you think having a lot of ecommerce websites such as amazon and ebay is a sign of weak competition? I am targeting a keyword which has about 5 of the top 10 results. Two of them are niche websites and the other three are authority websites not targeting the keyword directly.

Yes I had the domain bought from nargil and it was great but I spammed with it and now I think its penalised somehow cant even reach top 200 with 2k+ words.

Now since I don't have a budget to buy an expired domain I'm thinking on starting a new site.

Do you think I can rank the new site on easy kw?

You can rank super easy long tails with no links, just 'great' on site/page SEO and good supporting/feeder/pillar pages. Lots of great content and supporting articles.

Get those ranking, then target easy kw's and use decent free links and go slowly.

I have had the same problem and if you leave the site alone for several months, it often comes back to life. But in the meantime, get another site going and ageing.

But if you start a complete website from the scratch when you link to your money website, it will tranfer not so big link power, because it is new

Adding another twist to this - if you are using a new domain, but a country level domain, like .co.uk, apparently such domains are being favored for local SEO searches, and somehow, they are given a little bit more priority and preference for local searches (using a local IP).
Thus, if you are targeting local SEO, you can in fact try registering a new country-level domain, and if they do have good enough traffic for that niche, then you can probably start reaping the benefit from there instead.

I do not have perfect knowledge but before the pick, any expired domain you need to consider the 1. previous content history 2. Backlink Profile 3. TF and CF 4. Effect by Google algorithm or not etc thanks
