Using a neighbor's wireless router. Can he trace me?

I have his permission, and I'm paying for the service.

He runs a computer repair service and is computer savvy.

I am using private proxies from proxy bonanza.

Can he see the urls I'm visiting, or just the proxies?

I do enjoy youporn occasionally. Lots of IM case studies there.

Depends on whether or not the traffic between you and the proxies is encrypted. Fire up tcpdump or wireshark on your gateway and see


An ssh tunnel (or even a VPN) will resolve the issue.

Probably not. He would need to setup a man-in-the-middle attack, log your packets, etc..

He can probably see where you are going just from dns queries. A couple other things that come to mind are running a transparent proxy on the gateway. You did say that it is a neighbors router. You can do a ton with a router running openwrt or ddwrt. The neighbor controls the gateway, hence, he controls the flow of packets.

He can see everything if he knows how which I very much doubt or would even
want to go through all that bother unless he suspects you of anything

So in other words, "Probably yes." ?? The question was, "Can he trace me?" Bottom line: yes

Bottom line, yes. but even more bottom line, the only people who do that stuff to steal info set up in airports and the like. You probably have a neighbor who either thinks the net should be a free for all (many people open and set up wireless points just to be nice) or you have someone who does not know anything about wifi and has his network open more by accident than any other reason. If the FBI shows up at his house and you just ended a Skype call with Osama Bin Laden, start to worry, otherwise, chill.

Well it depends on router. if he has router logging on and he g@@gles how to trace my traffic, YES he can. I all ways trace my roomies traffic...just for fun.

Not really. Most consumer/retail grade WAP devices are not immune to ARP attacks/spoofing... Even if it's a $25 wal-mart link-sys cheapo, or a $125 link-sys ddwrt setup, hell even a cisco 3750, ARP poison works 99% of the time (assuming the victim/attacker are on the same subnet and the attacker knows wtf they're doing, of course).
