i plan on making a generic gaming site, in it i plan on doing a few different categories, eg reviews, deals, ect, would it be better to use multiple domains and multiple websites covering one category, or put all the categories into the one site?

Recommend single domain with multiple categories. It's easy to promote and the visitors will see the other category.

Single domain will be better, easy to maintain and less cost.

Single site would be my suggestion. Adds more meat to your site and you save on domain fees at the same time :)

single domain, it'll be hard to promote different sites man, but if you have plenty of resources... you may go for it :)

Completely depends on your method of monetization. If you're going SEO one multi category site is much better

If you were doing an email optin and plan on monetizing through affiliate links multiple websites

how about using multiple domains on one multisite? wouldn't they rank better on google than subdomains would?

Go with single site, then you can branch out when you get bigger. If you divide your already limited content/traffic up, you won't get anything in any website. You can launch more websites after you gain popularity and you can plug them into each other.
