Usign dot as an anchor text.

When i create forum or comment backlinks I often use dot sign as anchor text to make it less noticeable. Does it have any negative seo effects ? Will it be considered as generic anchors ? Thanks , maybe anyone with exoerience .

I guess this is not good idea. Just make better your forums and comments text for real backlink.

Surely is a generic anchor by all means. But at the same time, it's kind of weird, not sure if anyone has tested this. To some extent it seems some kind of hindering or obfuscation. Be wary that Google algos use proven mechanisms to "measure" in pixels the length of things. Not sure if this apply for texts and more particularly for dots

I'm almost 100% confident that noone would have such specific answer for you. You will need to do some lab testing to find out how this works out. I may take it in case I have some time.

Thx. One of my sites (the main page mainly) got tanked from searches for 100 pages . It had many dot anchors but maybe also google update did that. Anyway i changed some of them will be testing the results now.

Not a good idea... It's just a hiding manipulation, For the long run, it can't be worth it.

Not recommend.
Your hard work can all be worth nothing once ur site starts ranking and google finds out.

Google says:

Using white text on a white background
Locating text behind an image
Using CSS to position text off-screen
Setting the font size to 0
Hiding a link by only linking one small character—for example, a hyphen in the middle of a paragraph
