Hi

Can I ask what the point of being able to do this is please?

I've noticed a handful of people who are the subject of recent SLs have blocked access to their profiles.

I know you can search manually for their posts, but it seems like being able to block access to your profile just helps certain people hide things.

Thanks!

As far as I am concerned, if a user blocks access to their profile they cannot be trusted.

Why block their profile if they have nothing to hide.

That's like saying if a girl doesn't send me nudes after the first date she can not be trusted i.e. she might have herpes

I think people should have a right to privacy. Just because you can't see the guy's profile doesn't mean he's up to something. Also, people who I follow can see my profile so it's kinda like having an Instagram private profile.

Bullshit!! How can you compare a girl sending nude pics to a forum profile???

If you want privacy, keep off public websites. You don't need to put any personally identifiable information into your user profile here so there is no good reason to make your profile private.

Edit: I see you have your profile set to private. I and most likely many others on this site would NEVER do business with you as it looks just plain sketchy.

Again, I think people have a right to privacy. No matter if it's the government spying on you or just a random member on bhw trying to creep into your profile.

This is the reason why BHW gives the option to let people you follow view your profile when it's private. It's kinda like your private circle.

Well, as I stated above, many people, including myself would never do any deals with you if you're hiding your profile from public view.

Gonna have to disagree with you @sturose. Everyone who hides their profile isn't shady. Some people just don't want you to know who the fuck they are.

Is that a crime?

If you're a marketplace seller with a private profile I understand you being skeptical. But anyone else with a private profile shouldn't raise alarms.

We're strangers on the internet. The fuck do you need to see our profiles for?

Wear your tin foil hats with pride!

When you used to be able to see who had looked at your profile, I found a lot of them were people I would not want to be looking at my profile. Digging through my profile hoping to trip me up, sad bastards. Probably looking for my dick pics too.

Appreciate your point of view @alwaysinvisible

My point is if I wanted to do a deal with somebody then I would expect to be able to do as much research as possible without being blocked from accessing their profile.

I also don't see the need to make your profile private when you have no requirement to put any personally identifiable information in your profile page, this ain't Facebook where people are sharing their cat pics and how drunk they were at last nights party, it's a business forum and without transparency there will always be doubt.

Everyone that are using VPN and proxies can't be trusted.

In fact, the people that provide proxies and VPN services are the criminal masterminds.

I can only imagine the guys that are buying whois protection for their domains - very shady guys, I will never visit a website with whois protection.

Why would one hide their privacy on the internet? It is so wonderful place, full of ONLY good people that wish only good things to you.

Please guys... All of you... I will open a new thread where I want you to post your websites, don't be shady, you are not up to something, right?

i think this feature should be discontinued, i think you all can imagine why. It can easily be put to misuse and tell very less about the person. There is no question of privacy as you are on public forum and benefit from others indirectly or directly.

Do these people get automatically put to "they cant see my profile list" of rest of people. If not, it should be put to use. If you dont allow others, you are also not allowed. Go fuck yourself !!

If someone wants to really know about you, he will anyway do that with google help.

//rant over

Holy fuck this is blowing out of proportion!!

You wanna keep your forum profiles private, do it! Doesn't bother me in the least but I and any other sane person will never do any business with you if you're not completely transparent.

If you're that paranoid then you really ought to cancel your internet connection. Comparing a forum profile to nude pics, covering your tracks when gaming the system or outing your money sites to other marketers is just bordering on ridiculous!!!

Ask yourself something:

Do you have a domain from which you get a specific revenue, from the visitors, buyers etc.?

Ask yourself another question:

Do you have whois protection on that domain?

Ask yourself 3rd and final question:

Would you like all these visitors to stop visiting your website because they can't make proper research of the website/service owner and you are not completely transperant?

I mean a famous terrorist can sell me this service, right, how can I know, he may get a little of my personal info?

That is just borderline stupid, having whois protection is not even close to being similar. For the record, I have 3 sites at the moment, 2 with Whois protection and 1 without. The 2 with are informational micro niche sites and nobody would give a flying fuck who owns them.

My other site is an ecommerce site with no Whois protection because I expect people to buy my products and therefore wish to be completely transparent.

The comparison you are making is ridiculous.

This isn't about nudes, whois, or any of that shit.

This is about privacy and some people appreciate a little privacy.

If you don't feel comfortable doing business with someone who has a private profile then don't.

Personally, I like to check people's trade score but I can see where you're coming from.
Just be careful your tin foil hat isn't too tight.

I will stop after my reply and going to a fuck party :)

Doesn't matter whether u are on a forum or somewhere else you are buying that service or item.. or whatever. You are doing the same business everywhere.
