Awwwwwwwww what a pity, ever think of bringing that in? I'm guessing it would be hard to set up.

It's nothing hard..
A few forums like DP allow users to change their username for a fee but not without publicly listing all your old usernames and record on your profile just in case a member plays a fast one..

users have a number assigned to them i think, the name change could just change the screen name and you could only change it once a year,
how about that?

Even if you have a number assigned what other users see is your name. I don't think it makes sense to flush how people know you (unless you're trying to hide something), maybe some people have good reasons though...

just think 'ivanfitzy' is a bit bland... and they could bring rep back showing that you are respected and they could do what john1444 said with the whole post your old usernames stuff

contact mods and wait, they might just agree if its for a genuine reason, but keep in mind they've already 1000 things to deal with so it might not really get priority/response.
