When trying any new SEO method or tool, it’s always better to test on a sample domain or subdomain instead of your main money site. This way, you can track results, avoid unexpected penalties, and learn what works before applying at scale.


I’ve noticed many people rush directly on their main site and later regret it. Testing first saves time, effort, and keeps your main project safe.

I'm actually a big believer in testing in the wild. A lot of the AI sites I churn out have some sort of test going on in the background - a different approach to internal linking, adding schema, trying more randomised 'prettifying' of content etc. Of course this probably isn't the approach you want to take on a precious money site, but then again you've got to take a few risks here and there.

My approach is controlled testing on the main site itself. I'll choose a small, non-critical cluster of pages (like an old blog category), apply the new strategy only to them, and measure the impact in isolation.

This gives you an accurate, real-world test without risking your main money pages.

When changing on-page or technical, that's definitely better to test it first with pet or less important websites first. But when we talk about link-building, for now, Google's toxic backlinks algorithms don't work anymore, so you can put any amount and quality of backlinks to the money site!

You're obviously not as aggressive as I am with my tests

Always better to test first, main sites should stay clean and penalty free.
