USE THIS IF YOU WANT TO BE untraceable

One addition to hexalors text:

To trace you the attacker needs to gain access to the entry and the exit node.
The entry node is randomly selected from a pool of thousands of nodes which makes it pretty hard to do.
An attacker would have to sneak in a lot of different nodes into the network to even get a tiny chance of success and by doing that he probaby would trigger a few red flags that something is going on.

Sorry simo, but that's not true.
You had one evaluation license and tested if for a short time using one proxy of hundreds available and probably never really tried the options cloakfish offers to make a slow route faster.

This is a timely discussion as I've been investigating my options over the last couple of days with regards to privacy and anonymous surfing.

Something I stumbled across yesterday was 'xerobank' (
Code:
http://xerobank.com
). I'd be interested in what others think of the claims made on their site. There is a 'free' option which basically just leverages the 'standard' TOR network and then there is a paid version which supposedly utilises private faster anonymous proxies. (Paid version is $1 for the first month then $35 monthly recurring). I'll probably try this out - after all it's only $1 for the first month.

They also have a free 'anonymous browser' called "XB browser" which you can use with that service (although you don't have to) - formally called "torpark" I believe which I'm sure some of you would already be familiar with.

I however like firefox as my browser and will probably keep that. In terms of any local activity that is logged on my P.C. when browsing (ie. cache, cookies etc) here is what I've been using so this information remains private (even if someone gets access to my P.C):

Firstly perform the following 'one-off' setup sequence:

1. Install truecrypt (
Code:
http://www.truecrypt.org
)
2. Using that create a virtual encrypted disk with a hidden volume (using strong password)
3. Installed sandboxie (
Code:
http://www.sandboxie.com
)
4. Configure sandboxie so that the "root" folder points to "W:\sandbox\" and default browser is firefox

Then with this configuration when I'm ready to surf the web I simply do the following:

1. Mount the truecrypt encrypted disk (takes two seconds)
2. Surf the web using firefox (via sandboxie)

What happens is that all of the browsing activity (caching, cookies etc) is written to the encrypted "W:\" drive. When I'm finished surfing, I simply dismount "W:\" drive.

This is the basics of what you can do and it leaves no "footprints" of your internet activity on your local P.C.

some sites won't opened if tor is running on your computer.

How on earth can a website tell what programs are running on your computer? I'm not 100% certain they can't, only 99%. Could someone come to the definitive answer on this.

Could they tell if you were using a tor IP ADDRESS? YES
Could they tell what programs you are running, I don't think so.

a lot of people hate on TOR because they say its slow but it really is the best anonymity tool there is if your goal is to truly become anonymous.

If you want to surf or do naughty shit without getting caught then you need to seek out your own proxies in countries like china, russia, malaysia, and lots of non english speaking countries and chain them together. Sure they can still trace you but good luck getting through all the language barriers.

Oh and if you fuck over a bank or start stealing credit cards they WILL trace you, I've seen it happen. There is no sure way to stay 100% under the radar, all you can do is keep your shit pretty low level and make it a hassle to come looking for you.

Juist my $0.02

Hmm. Not really untraceable. I agree with what apekillape said. I'm the dir. or IT for a major hotel company and I spent a really long time tweaking and studying TOR/Vidalia for other, more spurious purposes.

It is very, very good for doing quick, "surf to a site" taskings and then moving on, but any "relay" can have their logs pulled, just like what happened in Germany a few months ago when they shut down a HUGE TOR bank of relays... mainly because there was a problem with child porn being surfed through them.

Logs were pulled. People were pressured and interrogated. Arrests were made. It can and does happen,... especially when children are involved. Believe it.

But... if you really want to make it very, very HARD to trace,... then you can tweak and carefully configure your own TOR routes and relay "exit points" ... as they are called.

I had a system of batch files set up on a series of desktops to do just this at one point, and believe me... even our sophisticated security testing had some real troubles producing an originating node, even with 2-3 hours of solid sniffing.

This, however, was a huge trade off on speed, which is also a factor whenever someone is doing something.

In short, TOR can be rigged to make it "almost" untraceable,... but at what cost,... and for what purpose?

YouTube accounts for boosts is one thing, surfing kiddie porn is another.

Cheers all.

Who was arrested ?
What logs where pulled ?
Tor nodes are not logging and I know of not one case that anyone was arrested.
The thread starter is definitly no genius but he's right about the anonymity Tor can provide.

i think this is well known and alot of guides have posted already

Tor was funded by the government and traffic with Tor is closely monitored by the Feds to catch child molesters, hackers, etc...You have just led everyone to a "proxy" that would get users caught if they were using it for illegal purposes.

SerRated

Edit: FYI Post count means jack...all it means is I have just registered to this site, has nothing to do with my knowledge. kthx =D

"a fat kid guarding a room full of pies" !!!! LMAO... seriously... good info here. Thanks all!!

Hi I've used Tor but I found out another way to be Untraceable that is much better I think ... It's just a little slow because you can open and use FREE services but also the paid services are much Faster (I use the Free).

The program is JonDonym ( http://anonymous-proxy-servers.net) and it comes with another Firefox designed for it where it has the basics (no cookies, flash, etc.) although you can enabled them if you want.

It's from Germany and when you surf the IP it shows is from THEM (Germany).

I've got my Firefox installed where when I click the Firefox Icon a window of the 2 Profiles shows up 1.(my regular Profile) and 2.(My JonDonym Profile) then according to the level of security I want for what I want to do I choose the one I want.

Check it out!

No need to fear torproject. it is fairly well known. However, the problem with tor is that many forums specify they do not allow the use of proxies, including many private torrent forums. These will ban you if you use tor---as the IP address may be changing quickly and visible to the forum administrators.

Incidentally, Gouranga, are you using tor on forums such as this one? I never thought of even checking out:)

so are you the F.|3.I. or trying to make money on something? I dont really trust 2 posts and then a share like this but hey thats just me

If you're going for anonymity, TOR is inadequate.
TOR is only as secure as the exit node.
Try Jap/Jondo or Jondofox instead.
See anonymous-proxy-servers.net/en/jondo

well if someone didn't want to slow there browsing and just wanted to shield spies or hackers from there own machine .. for security ... what would an experenced person recommend?
