Use Penguin 2.0 to your Advantage

Some of you may or may not have been hit by the recent penguin update. Like many i can see no damn pattern or method to googles madness. Some sites got hit and some didn't. The sites that got hit some of them were clients and I had many phone calls that day telling me something that i already new... That there ranking had dropped. But i had to think fast and improvise a solution..I explained that it was due numerous reason onsite and offsite but i also assured them that it wasn't due to my link building solely as i could show them numerous sites that were still flying high after the update from the rest of my poertfolio.

But here it comes... Because of the fact that Google made an update we had to improvise and adjust our strategy (not because it was the problem in the first place) slightly as it is essential to keep in line with google algorithm updates. To that end we will have to increase the monthly price slightly to keep inline with these updates and ensure your ranking's keep increasing. (then add what you like onto their monthly premium).

Now this may or may not work depending on how badly your client got hit and also depending on how much of the rest of your portfolio did not get hit. you need to show them some fo your other clients who you were doing exactly same seo work on and prove that it was not completely down to your link building.

But all in all, do actually use that extra cash to invest in quality work for your clients. The pattern i am recognizing is unique content around your back links only on every back-link no more spun crap. Sorry to say it but it may work short term long term your sites going to get hit.

No more spun crap? So your advising to make backlinks with unique content? Lets say you need 500 backlinks to rank.. that would cost 1k..

Not saying your 100% wrong - but 10 years ago after "Fritz" and Google claiming "The end of spam - bad links would fail - good content required - spam punished" although no-one spun content back then, the message was more or less the same word for word.
Sure some sites got hit.
Ass hurt webmasters made more noise and as such they seemed to be a majority rather than the tiny (miniscule?) minority. SEO's worried themselves with fear and some changed, some dived out of the IM business for good.

Which is great. for those who have seen this all before many many many (many) times.

Sound familiar? Same message 8+ years ago. And people posted on forums the same message you are posting now.
Worse still - self righeous White Hatters started to charge a fortune for "clean links" that not only cost a bloody forture and took ages to improve a site in SERPS..but also - pro rata - they were no safer than any other kind of links.

The myth of "Google Approved" SEO was born

All SEO is frowned on by Google..They don't like you to build self serving links full stop. "relationships" or just link building..it's all crap to Google.
White Hat is snake oil - a slow and expensive way to take the exact same risks and get far slower results. Penguin 2 isn't changing that for 98% of IMers
It's more or less the exact same message for year after year after year...update after update.
Some noobs seem to think updates started with Panda and finished with Penguin 2
Those of us around here for many years know that each one just tightens the screw a little bit - not change the paradigm. With Google links rule. Sure they want diversity and better quality - but the jump isn't from 1st gear to 5th in one update. Not saying don't make good quality Tier one sites - their are excellent reasons for doing so (click through for a start - A tier one linking site should be a traffic conduit not just a SERPs raiser)

Go forth and earn cash BHW members. LEave fear at the door - adapt and survive.
Slow down and add substantial costs at your own risk - IMO it's rarely worth it.

Im giving best practices here if your willing to invest in your money sites which are your bread and butter and/or have big clients you want to be able to put your head on a pillow at night and know you have done a good job. Spun crap can work but in MY OPINION long term its not the best. (short term gains long term pains) ague what you like but never the less 100 % unique content tier 1 is the way forward tier 2 is the place to be slightly looser. Like i said my opinion my best practise.

Lets talk quality not quantity. Through my experience quality goes the long distance. quanity is just cash and burn. Go quality on tier 1 and then quantity tier 2-3. Yes it might take a little longeer but you wont be sweating every time google releases a zoo animal

I'm not backing shitty backlink
I'm talking EFFECTIVE backlinks.

Not talking about poor quality content either. I spend 5x more on content now in terms of time and dollars than I did in 2009. But I spend less time turning that content into backlinks.

I automate.

My money sites tend to get 50%+ of their traffic through my first tier. That's click through - "click through" is the litmus paper of good quality 1st tier structures.
The reason I get such a high click through rate from my first tier is two fold;

Google indexes it as original
Visitors can read it perfectly and therefore feel comfortable "clicking through" the links

Win/Win

While we are on that point - anyone that makes a first tier JUST out of WEB2.0 sites is taking a huge risk in the first place - talk about flagging your own self promotion to Google.

Just about all my authority sites (and I only build authority sites these days - just 8 sites in total) improved both in terms of serps and traffic over the past 7 days - this morning shows some more slight long tail improvements and traffic increases

I'm talking about SEO methods that include automation and content re-use that actually is proven to work over more than a decade -
It works now - It's actually IMPROVING MY SITES RIGHT NOW.

It provides both Google and the visitors with what they want and is actually improving day after day post Penguin 2.0

I might be one of those in a position to quit SEO and IM in a year or three. Finished - done - made my cash and retired to watch the Oakland A's in the USA every UK Summer (now 10 from their last 11 - great 2 run hit from Cess' put the mockers on a Giants come back last night)

And your telling me I'm doing something wrong.

You've made a good and informative post and my response was based on experience. I too use "effective" backlinks. All my tier 1's are purely 100% unique content written by legal content writers... its an amazing resource for a client to supply

People should understand that Tier 1 is not some Web 2.0 properties with 1-2 posts made some months ago and which bombed with tier 2 and tier 3 backlinks ( low quality).

Thinking long-term means investing your money smart enough to maximize your earnings. Having "real buyers" to your 1st tier is the perfect argument in this sense.
