Hi forum,

I have a simple question regarding usage of images.

I would like to mention various celebrities in my blog, but I don't want to use copyrighted images from google as in the long run I want to be safe from potential disputes with copyright holders.

However, what if I post a link to an image that I found on google???.

Such as "Celebrity X wore the jacket by brand Y this week as you can see in this Photo [Link Here].

Is it totally legit doing it this way?

You should have a proper written confirmation, Even if you promote there brand on your website.

In long run, it will affect your reputation.

Also it depends on that organization, from where you are taking images.

I think you misunderstood, I am not taking an image.

I am posting a text link to it.

Do I need permission to post a text link?

why dont you buy stockimages, they are not cheap but its secure enough to put them on your website.

I am just seeking to probe this particular blogging direction.

Basically its about new celebrity sightings and what clothing or accessories they had. Not sure if I can get images like that from stock images sites.

I was thinking to post links to news articles or actual images of celebrities where they are wearing the given piece of clothing I am talking about. As such I will have NO images on my blog, but readers can click links should they wish to view the image.

I am just wondering if this is a legit method?

Posting a link to the image is fine - that's exactly what Google does when it indexes site - you are not actually hosting the image yourself and claiming it's yours.

If you're going to show the actual image, then you should always credit the source and ensure you have a DMCA statement. It won't necessarily stop you being sued, but showing you're crediting the image source is a great start.

If you display images is better to buy stock images, there are some sites dedicated for celebrities.I think you can text link any website without a problem.

@OP, it is absolutely safe and fine. If you are just linking to another page on another website and not hosting the image, there is no legal problem at all.

No problem I think. You can mention the source as the caption for safety.

It seems super extreme to go through all this trouble, but if you're intention is to link to the image, IMO most people would just show the image, and provide the appropriate credit/source information. This in addition to an appropriate DMCA policy, and ensuring that your usage of the image is reasonable as "fair use," i.e. you add value to the image in some way means you should be fine overall. This is particularly the case with celebrities and people identified as "public figures."

An alternative approach would be to just iframe the existing image source. I'm not saying it's legal to do any of these things. I'm just saying people do it.

Linking is not infringement

You should be fine

Read the US copyright law's provisions-it talks about direct use of the protected work or its derivatives.

Linking to protected work falls outside of copyright laws.

Otherwise, the Internet (a collection of links) would have IMPLODED in courthouses a long time ago.

post all the text links you wish, there is nothing wrong with that at all. You might also find that if you build a relationship with certain other celeb sites that they will give you permission to use the images as long as there is also a link, just send a message and ask permission in advance and see if you can set up that sort of relationship.

Hi,
I think there will be no problem in posting the images of the celebrities rather it will be an better advertisement...
