Use an EMD on hosted service

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use an EMD on a hosted website/blog service like wordpress.com or posterous or whatever.. ?
Hosting costs are not high, but anything we can save money on is extra money earned right, especially if you're going after many websites.
Any experiences?

You can use an EMD or a non EMD on hosted services. The advantages and disadvantages of the hosted service are not related to the name of your domain.

yes of course.. that was not what I meant to ask. Just wondering if people are doing this for their MNS and if not, why not.
I see most people talking about hosting and setting up your own wordpress, which is what I'm doing as well, just wondering why ....

I started by doing just that many years ago, dodn't want to spend a lot of money to test my methods.
Now I use a VPS, it gives me more control and more flexibility.
In general I wouldn't want to have my money maker on a "stranger's land".
