Which one would be a better microphone in terms of audio quality.

There is no comparison, if your going to be recording decent audio then you need a usb condensor mic, if you just skypin friends then laptop mic is fine.

what do you plan to use it for, I think every serious IMer needs one of those headshit with the mic so your audio comes out clear and professional.

Built in is better in quality in comparison to some average headset mic.

Yes it will have some disturbance due to laptop vibrations and cpu fan sound.
