Hello everyone, I have some questions that I hope can be answer and help me get started on my journey. My questions are regarding U.S. Taxes related to having Income generated by a website (amazon affiliated). I read on another post that you can in fact deduct the domain purchase as well as the hosting, but how about things like antivirus software, VPN for security , purchase of WP Themes and for those of you that require the services of writers (upwork, freelancer, etc...), can this also be a deducted?

I don't know if these questions are to stupid to ask, but I'm new to all this.

There are numerous tax deductions and exemptions but if you aren't earning enough to pay for an Accountant or professional advice, then get some software or books that will help you.

^^^^^^^^^ Those are just examples, there are many types of book/software out there, do a search and find what you are comfortable working with.
Also check around for local business groups or Chambers of Commerce, you might find somebody that can help, somebody might know a Bookkeeper who can assist you in filing your returns.

I don't have any problems with my site as it's not up yet and at the moment I'm still not an amazon affiliate. I'm just trying to learn more about taxes related to having a website that generates income for you.

The website deductions aren't a huge profit saver. As a self-employed person, you should have all kinds of deduction options as far as SEP IRA and 401k's to shelter taxes, as well as regular business deductions (internet, phone, mileage, etc...) gotta focus on growing in the income to the point that you have something to save taxes on.

Yes, U.S imposes several taxes and deductions on e-businesses but my recommendation is that you should be aware the law of state in which you living.

All of things things you mentioned are deductible business expenses. In addition, you can deduct all or part of your phone bill, a % of your mortgage or rent if you have a home office, a % of your car expenses, a % of your internet access expense, and on and on. I'm not a CPA but I work with a number of them along with bookkeepers to keep my records up to date and my taxes as low as possible.

I suggest you find a CPA in your area that seems like a good fit. If you're just starting out then don't go to the biggest CPA firm in town - you'll spend money you don't need to. And find a bookkeeper - that person might be part of the CPA co you hire. And they will make sure you deduct every thing you can to legally minimize the taxes you pay.

I actually am a tax preparer.

You can deduct any "regular business expense" for your business. What is regular depends on what your business does. All the things you mentioned would count.

There are also a ton of other things you can do to minimize or eliminate your tax liability, but this will depend to a degree on how you have structured your business.

If you want a more detailed discussion hit me up on Skype.
