Which is better or is there any difference with using -us.doamin.com or domain.com/us/ for multilingual website?

I always go with a subfolder to cut the risks down,
it's easier to manage and usually works better
you can use subdomains as well, but you have to make sure to implement a good interlinking (in both cases)

not in all cases, when a good internal linking is used, Google will treat subdomains as part of the domain,
this is used usually in software publishing websites like Uptodown.com and softonic.com and they rank pretty well
