Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of starting a new affiliate website, and I'm faced with a decision regarding the URL structure. I've come across two main options: the "hard silo" approach and the "soft silo" approach.

  1. Hard Silo: In this approach, I'd structure my website with "Hubs" (or Pages) and add new pages within these hubs. As a result, my URL structure would look something like this: "mywebsite.com/Affiliate/Best-Programs."
  2. Soft Silo: Alternatively, I could go for the "soft silo" method, where the focus is more on categories and individual posts. This would result in URLs like "mywebsite.com/Best-Affiliate-Programs."
I'm currently in a bit of a dilemma about which approach to choose. I've already made some plans for my articles and keywords, so I want to make the right decision from the start.

Your insights and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

the silo of a website is usually given by the topics (NOT keywords, but topics!) you wish to cover. And without knowing your topics (or at least the keywords, it's hard to recommend the right silo).

This being said, most of the time it's hard silo :)

Check out this guide on siloing for more details, but - again - in the end you will have to adapt this info to your particular circumstance:

Both are good and not affecting ur site so much. But I'll go with hard silo since I wanna make a good structured and organised URL

When it comes to siloing, it really depends on your niche and content strategy. Hard silos work wonders for larger sites where you're planning to build out massive authoritative hubs - think topical authority on steroids. Soft silos, on the other hand, are more flexible, easier to navigate, and can make internal linking more natural.
