This is just my idea, but I'm sure it would work fine. I'm sure you've all heard of websites like tinyurl, bit.ly, if you were to set up one of these websites and have a good amount of traffic going to it, you could modify your script over.

When somebody trys to shorten a affilate/refferal link, you replace their affialte part with yours, so for example index.php?username=james would be changed to index.php?username=alex - They'd be driving traffic to this shorternd URL, but it would display your refferal instead of theirs!

When somebody shortens a ebay/amazon etc, you could quickly stuff the person goign on it, obviously their interested in buying a product, or they wouldn't go on the site, so that's another easy cash maker.

Thoughts on this? :)

Sorry, but the same method has been shared before, including a few days ago.

Anyway, some people (myself included) believe many of the URL shortening services do the exact same thing as you mentioned.
 
tinyurl does this... I visited one of my links and was redirected to Amazon...
 
I've already set up a site with the intention of doing this, but I'm not yet doing the affiliate id swapping.

For it to work I'm gonna need volume, so I've got some of my autoblogs that post to Twitter using the service. I figure that this way there's the URL of the shortening service being put out there automatically dozens of times every day.

Although I coded my system from scratch there are several good free scripts available, but my favourite is Shorty (I'm not allowed to post URLs yet, but you can Google it)
 
making money blackhat is one thing , but this is just flatout stealing. I don't need that kind of karma coming back my way but if that floats your boat then go for it . Just remember KARMA is a bitch and always hits when you can least afford it .

You don't even need to remove other peoples affiliate ids - you can just add your id to any links that don't already have one.

I can't believe that there are people on a BH forum that have moral problems with this, but have no qualms about filling the web with spam.

As @swinter84 says, there are shortening services that already do this -where do you think I got the idea from? As far as I know TinyURL *don't*, but there's literally hundreds of identical services out there.

I was just stating MY personal belief. I could really care less what you do . I made the comment so I will address it. Yes , I believe in KARMA. I guess once you live long enough for it to come back on you ,you'll see but whatever. If the OP does'nt more power to him. I try not to fuck anybody if I can help it. do I always succeed ,NO. but I try. I did'nt blast your idea or say it was stupid , no need to get sensitive about it. Yes, I'm BH as well but you don't have to fuck people to make money online. SEO and selling products that people want and desire isn't fucking anybody, but you do you and I will do me . Enough of this thread , money is waiting and someone else is making it while I waste time here. Peace

I always considered myself at the grey-end of black hat - maybe I'm wrong? ;)

@impalarick - I agree about karma - do unto others etc. Reading back the original post I see the OP suggests changing aff urls. I'm not actually doing that - just adding aff ids to URLs that don't already have one attached (which is why I don't see how this is doing somebody wrong). Peace back to you.

Well despite there being moral issues (which are irrelevant to the forum), I think it's a pretty decent idea. It kind of shocked my n00b ass to hear the other URL shortners might be doing exactly that.

Anyway, my 2 cents for this is, if you plan on doing it, at least have a script that will randomly change the affiliate ID, and not all the time, so that even if a person checks their URL (which a lot of people do), the chances of them finding out you changed the affiliate ID is slim.
I'd recommend something like 1 of 5 to stay low on the radar.

Another great idea I just thought of, would be to set up a site, that will test exactly this - test the URL shortners to see if they change the affiliate ID or original link, and thus provide service for people wanting to see if they are getting ripped off.
It seems like pretty easy coding, and there must be a market for this (all Black Hatters :-):cool:

P.S If anyone wants to do this, PM me and I'm game, I can help with the coding.

maybe we should have a course on how to write accurate titles and not crap where people are just trying to grab attention.

I don't intend on emplying this method, I was thinking about it the other night and I thought I would post it, just to see what other people think and if anyone wants to try this method out, go for it. Although if you were to do this, log the IP of each url shorternd, so when the person who shortnered the URL goes onto it, to goes to the correct page. :)
