URL redirect,masking question.

Guys I have a few extra bucks and I am going to use it to buy a new domain name. When I first got into marketing, I paid for a domain and used it only to URL forward it to my domain.

I posted in related forums and THE RESPONSE WAS AMAZING. I made lots of commissions this way. Then I started to do a little research, and I found that some affiliates may not approve of this method. Altho I had no complaints from my affilate network (CJ.COM).So I have come here for the advice of BHW experts again!

If I forward mydomain.com to affiliatelink.com and post my domain to forums.. will the affiliate network be able to know where the traffic is coming from? Im also very interested in the godaddy "forward masking" feature.For those who do not know what I am refering too, godaddy gives you the option to forward your domain using the domain masking feature.
So when someone visits your forwarded domain, in the browser your domain name will not change, even tho they are actually at another website.

Sorry for the long question but I just would like to know is the affiliate networks can detect where you are posting your forwarded domain, and would they have a problem with the URL masking as well..

When you send traffic from forums to your domain, the referrer will pass through as your domain. Your affiliate manager most likely wont mind, but may ask where that traffic is coming from. Also, if your going to do that, don't use your domain name in the anchor text. Your affiliate manager could search google for "yourdomain.com" and find the forums you posted your link on.

Better use a php redirection script. For example, if someone enters your domain directly (no referer) you show a whitehat site (probably to your AM), if someone enter your domain, say from Google, Yahoo, etc, then you redirect to your affilliate link.

Yes. if it's a 301 redirect then the referrer will be forwarded too..

i'm thinkin about doing the same thing lucky J I have a great method for it i just have to figure out the best way to redirect. I talked to my AM and he said certain types of redirects are ok like 307,etc

But a 307 does not remove the referrer doesnt it?

Mainly what I am worried about is the aff. networking discovering the name of the domain that I am forwarding. Im afraid if they do it could be against their TOS and I could be ejected from the network. I had no problem doing this before though and I got paid for it.

So maybe I am being a little too careful for nothing. On Copeac I have seen some offers that allow IFRAMING which is something else that I am interested in, but I am unsure if CJ allows this.

this is how I do all my offers and I've never had a problem. I used to use godaddy's masking feature like the OP said, but its just a full page iframe so I do it myself and this way I can track it or change it on the fly...

Everytime I get accepted to a cpa company I tell them about to confirm its ok, haven't had any objections yet... And when they ask about the traffic, tell'em PPC marketing, SEO (if you use keyword rich domain) and offline marketing... tell them you used the domain bc its easier for you visitors to remember...
