Urgent VPS Question?

Hi, I want to get a VPS but I have one question. Do you have to be connected to the internet 24/7 to have one? I can't be on the internet the whole day. (I have a 1gb limit).

No, that's the reason I use a vps. I can shut down my computer and my bots still stay running. :)
 
Yeap, just install whatever you want in your VPS (Scrapebox, GSA, SenukeX, .etc) and let it run 24/7.

For your side, just off your laptop/computer and just go out! Let your VPS do the job :)
 
Think of it like this, a VPS is another computer that you are paying a rent for and it will be located on the place you hired it, it will run 24hs and you can access it from any computer as long as you have the credentials and access to it.
 
No, You don't have to be connected to internet 24/7 from your local computer/laptop. You need internet only when you need to login to the VPS to monitor/start processes remotely.
 
ok thanks! And I have always wondered this... if I have a vps and my limit is 1gb can I use the vps to download stuff and not use up my bandwidth limit???
 
Your VPS bandwidth is most likely shared but yes you will be able to use it to the limit you have available at the moment.

Shared means you're not the only one using so you won't get the max speed out of it but you will get a pretty good speed.

Also if the place were you are downloading from does not have a good connection you wont be able to max out what you have available.
 
Nope, just like the others have said...you don't need to be connected to have it run. You will need to be connected to the internet in order to connect to the VPS to start your programs,etc. - once they are started you can disconnect and they will still run.

Well as long as your VPS password is not 123456 and its IP everywhere to be found you should be OK.

Short answer: Usually yes.
Long Version: It depends, if you're getting VPS from a ok/solid company then yes, your privacy information will be kept private. You and sometimes the support are the only ones that have access to to. If you for got it from Joe Unknown that setup servers in his dads basement well... good luck then :)
 
I mean do they have remote access to my home computer? kinda new to this thing.
