    Hey Guys,

So I am completely freaking out right now. I am using Greencloud VPS to run Massplanner and have the entire folder saved on the VPS. Last night I was unable to access it from my Remote Desktop Viewer and emailed Support. They responded that windows crashed and they are asking if it is alright to reinstall windows. If they reinstall windows, will the Massplanner folder with all its backups still be saved to the hard drive? EVERYTHING I've worked for is saved to that folder, and if I lose it the last 6 months have been a complete waste.

Does anyone know any methods of how they can pull that folder if windows crashed?

    Thanks,
    King

It does not look good for you there - you really want to save those backups somewhere else. I use dropbox for that and have it automatically backed up daily.

You will need the paid version of DB as the files are too large for the free storage they give you.

Don't freak out yet as their techies may be able to restore that for you but going forward back up onto a different platform.

It's safe to say, if they can restore these files, I'll be backing up on my desktop, laptop and external harddrive. If they can't get everything back I'm going to be irate. Months on months of work lost.

    Thanks for the help

If you need an automated process to back that up, my guy will do that for you for free I am sure.

Next time get Mega, OneDrive or Google Drive and put the backup folder inside there so if you have to wipe an OS you'd be able to recover lost data.

It sucks, I once had to start over a couple years ago and I learned my lesson the same way.

    Thanks bassTracker,

I actually can not even believe this is happening to me. The whole reason I used greencloud was because they were supposedly the best. I have everything saved on there. If I lose the files I will be out 10k at least. It as all my login information and everything. I just can't believe this is happening.

You need to ask them to keep the old virtual drive and mount it on the new VPS created and remove it later on once, you retrieved the data.
This is what we do when it occurs (not to brag about what we do but more to illustrate it is possible)
BTB method to save with dropbox is definitly what you need to do from now on.
I hope you'll recover your data.

It could have not been your nightmare if you would have kept remote backup, for example using R1Soft and took daily backup

Many of the hosts do take regular back ups. Were they not doing it ?

I would have to disagree with the many portion of this. If you are paying for cheap VPS hosting that is unmanaged they only thing hosting providers do is maintain the network, not to hold any data integrity within the vps container.

    Hey BassTracker,

Unfortunately everything was lost. However, Greencloud VPS was extremely helpful and offered to compensate me for the last data. According to the CEO, this is the first time anything like this ever happened to the company and it was caused by the servers being moved to a new location. Thanks for asking. I would definitely still recommend their service.

Bummer in some respects there. The offer to have your MP set up to be backed up into Dropbox daily still stands.

My guy will be traveling on a short vacation until Sunday but I know he would be glad to set it up for you free of any charge as a favor to a fellow human being.
