So, to raise some money for hosting, I applied for a few jobs on Upwork. An account wanted 2 articles in 5-6 hrs for $40 or so. She/he joined today and doesn't have a verified payment method.

They wanted me to write 2 reviews for 2 porn sites, and sent me a template and an example. However, it was never accepted under My Jobs (which it should be for fixed price) and is asking me to send it through the messenger.

The response after I sent a couple paragraphs was 'Please send me in Microsoft word and Minimum 500 words. I will have to Run Through CopyScape'

Am I the only one who thinks this is shady?? If it's not under my jobs I've never actually been hired which means I won't be paid

The guy wants to take you a test? How many words for $40?

As a client over there, some of my freelancers experienced such "shady things". It's an usual scam: A guy wants some 500 words articles, he lists a job offering good money, asks the applicants to take a test (write 300, 400, 500 words), then never contact back. A good scammer can gather a lot of "free" articles fast.

Upwork has protection against such "bad behaviors" (if clients open a lot of jobs and never hire, they get their account suspended quickly), but scammers don't give a fuck their account are burners accounts.

Anyways, if you want to fuck him, Porn/Erotica is against Upwork's TOS. So take a printscreen and chat with an agent or send it to policy-report at upwork (or something similar, you can find the e-mail in the help section).

He's trying to scam you. As Talyn said, report him to Upwork as pornographic content is against Upwrok's TOS.

Oh really..? We cannot do any adult type projects in upwork? Are you sure?
I did not know that

ask to accept you first and don't send anything
you can send him to read the terms on the service

You can't do anything related to porn/erotica. Even if call that "steamy" or whatever funky words. Those guys have the best bots in the world who trigger REALLY fast.
Even your chat sessions are analyzed, don't ever think to write words like "paypal" or "invoice". DON'T.
Also ALL works related to "reviews" are banned since this summer.

If you want to fuck any of your clients, you can always find something in their TOS and they shoot really easily.

Ask him to put money in escrow before delivering the work.

"She/he joined today and doesn't have a verified payment method."

^^ This ^^

I see it on here too in Hire A Freelancer, people join, post a job and it stinks of scam, yet sheep flock to apply.

Use common sense.

Agreed. OP you don't need to think twice here :D

Thanks for the replies, I knew it was too good to be true. At least I have some example material reviewing a lesbian porn site lol

no verified payment method
asking to send the article first
how do you think you will get your money? think she will throw it over the oceans?
use your head! upwork is just like with any stranger on the street
dont give ur goodies unless its a straight exhange or in this case IF upwork holds monies in escrow as a middleman but in ur case its a 99.9999 scam actually its 100% so just do not do it
ask them to fund the project first in escrow and hire you

UPWORK is a good place to buy/sell, but you have to use the escrow system to guarantee you get what you pay for, and charge what you worked for! i work with similar websites and the amount of scams is around 5%
