I am not from USA as well but I am a Top Rated freelancer on Upwork and most of my clients are from there.

Life can get tough for non-USA residents or those who are not native English speakers. You just have to find a way around that by hook or crook. As long as the client has nothing to complain about, it's all good. Few years ago I registered on a freelance writing site called Zerys and emailed the support asking why am I not seeing any jobs on my board. They said I'm registered as an Indian resident that's why.
After that Zerys themselves offered to change my residency to US so that I could see gigs I understand that this is an exception, but you might get lucky too someplace, if not Upwork.

It's probably okay that you're not from the US if you're looking into getting more clients, especially if your rate is cheap. However, being a fluent English speak matters. Your work experience and portfolio can win you jobs, despite your location. Just don't mind the employers who are really looking for freelancers from specific countries/regions.

Upwork has become very tough these days. They also ask for video verification sometimes so plan for that beforehand.

You can use @secondeye service to get fake documents. I highly recommend avoiding that though. It won't be long before they ask for video chat verification. Maybe delete that account and change the location to your real country. I have a freelancer friend who've been on Upwork for a year now, where he managed to get over $5k, doing nothing but translation and writing tasks now and then. He's doing fine even though he's not from the US. Don't lose hope just because you're not an American.
