Upwork getting started (my experience)

UPDATE:
I got few more 5-10$ dollar jobs since my last thread. And potentially one BIG job might comey i am still in interview/test phase so i will see in next 24hrs what's going on. :)

Good progress mate and don't give up! I've started the same journey and below are the numbers from 5 to 6 months after starting the journey. Keep in mind that I didn't bid mostly for the past two months due to various reasons. I've started again a week before and hope will reach my journey target in the next couple of months.

You see, many people struggle here with lots of methods, spam tactics, churn and burn dying methods. Offering your services is the best way to make money even if you can't invest a dime. And you can make a lot of money if you continue and don't give up.
Don't have a skill? L E A R N. You can learn anything today for free or with paid courses. And this can be very long term thing. If you build your reputation you will have so many client you will need to refuse some of them. Good luck

There is literally 100s of jobs in your niche. You can build up your reputation in no time if you are good. My suggestion is to check lowest rate jobs in niche, just so you can build up few reviews and to roll some $$.
Look at those jobs as charity - since you will be working a lot for just a little money reward.
Be smart with connects and spend few hours every day in searching.

Also, cover letter - dont just copy/paste. Try to give them something that other 20-50 people didnt said, and be honest.
 
TODAYS UPDATE:

So basically now my profile doesn't have Rising Talent anymore, instead of that, I got a Job Success score. Today is officially a month since I created an account on Upwork, and I am really happy with how things are going so far.

So here is the last update for this year. And with that being said, I wish everyone to succeed in the upcoming year, and hopefully, it will be a better year for all of us! And don't give up on your dreams, work hard and success along with $$$ will come.

Anyway: I got 2 long-term projects in the last few days, so hopefully with those projects I will be able to earn a "stable" amount of money each month. I am more than happy that I won those jobs since on both jobs there were 50+ proposals and they were searching just for 1 freelancer. It's a great feeling to won that kind of job as a relatively new freelancer around here.
I am building my profile as hard as I can, looking forward to the top-rated badge, and will do my best to maintain a 100% job success score.

And I will tell again for everyone out there who are in the same position as me: TRY HARD guys, be honest with cover letters, do best as possible and it should be more than enough! Begining is hard I know - but don't give up, bid on simple jobs if you can't get a job in your niche (i am still doing that just to roll some more $ even if it's only 5$ job)

Both jobs that i got are graphic design related.

Started to losing hope that i am gonna be able to get a work as person who have 0 reviews, ofc i was searching here for suggestions, reviews exchange etc (pretty much what everyone else is doing)

Today i got a response from company who searching graphic design for catalogue - i signed up on upwork few days ago for that particular job when i created account.
I got a job and i am happy as a child who got his present from a santa, really!

+ the moment when i get contacted by them i got free 80 connect from upwork. So now i can bid on more jobs, and hopefully get more things done in near future.

My point to everyone out there, dont give up in this hard times!

You are lucky man. Some guys don't get work easily. Good luck and keep us updated about your journey as a full time freelance.
 
all these sites are making me crazy and mad a lot,for creating a project is fine but for working on these is a total waste of your life,is better to find a real job than working in these sites or create a site for yourself and sell the services in your site,the competition is very big because of the third world countries and the payments are low,i am talking as a freelancer for over 3 years in these sites
