Hi guys

Anyone here have experience with Upwork dispute?

Situation is this. I am a seller, I sold a GMB method on Upwork platform to the user. As the video exceeded 25MB, i uploaded to youtube and made a private video and shared link only with customer user therefore Upwork will not be able to see thos.

It was a week since i sent him the video , all our chat has been via FB. He admits on FB chat that he has it working.

Since he said it was working i took the video down and he is saying he doesnt want to pay for it, despite now knowing the method and he is now using it...

What can I do?

All correspondence with him has been via FB chat, will upwork consider as evidence ?

I have a list companies he does lead gen for and part of my sell was making listings for them ( prove it works ). Should i try and bill them ?

Thanks

- While you can communicate offsite ideally you would have had the link confirmed in Upwork or that it is working etc...
- As you can edit any files offsite should be relatively easy for the buyer to claim he never said that etc...

Also not sure how well it will go with selling a method and how you explain that to them ...

I recommend refund it and learn from your mistake so you can avoid it in the future, focus your good effort on other good clients. There's always at least 1 bad client from 100 clients.

Pass on, shouldn't be any seller on upwork do communication outside platform - the reason is exactly like this.. the only way they can judge whom wrong/right is based on onsite communication

If the sale was legit, completed via proper channels and the buyer acknowledged, that he received, what he paid for, i don't see, why you can't fight this. You have proof of the conversation on FB, provide that to Upwork, maybe record a video instead of just screenshotting, so they see, that it's not manipulated. I assume, the buyer gave his FB on Upwork to you, so he can't say, that it's not him. If offsite contact is allowed, Upwork needs to consider your proof. Let Upwork decide and don't refund until it's necessary.

Thanks for all of your inputs.

I think i will continie to fight the case, I can prove i sent the video and have entire chat logs with him. I just dont get why people feel the need to scam.

Let it go bro. Its not worth a fight. After some back and forth email communication Upwork will propose to use a third party arbitration service affiliated with them. I guess the fee for this is 250 USD+ and if the arbitrator decides that you are at fault, you'd lose the money, the time and also end up frustrated. The money lost with this client can be earned elsewhere tenfolds. It's just a drop in the ocean. But the time you waste on this, you could have spent pitching to more lucrative projects.

Consider this loss as fees for learning business in an MBA school. And don't worry about it. It's just business. We win some we lose some. Must celebrate our wins and not count our losses too much.
