hey everyone,
i’ve seen a lot of threads about accounts getting suspended - sometimes without clear reason.
is account suspension really common for everyone?
are these mostly automated, or is Upwork targeting certain profiles? any idea what triggers it most often nowadays?
would love to hear experiences from long-time Upwork users.

It’s mostly due to continuous violations of their policies most of the time.

Sometimes people do things over and over without really being conscious that they are breaking any rules and it eventually leads to a suspension.

It might look sudden to most people but in many cases it’s because they’ve been doing something wrong multiple times

It can even be small things like sharing external contact details in DMs which Upwork doesn’t like because they want the initial convo to stay on their platform.

These minor issues can compound over time and turn into something bigger after multiple warnings

Yes, I know it.
But sometimes, they suspend new account as well.
???

Yes, of course.
They said that account verified.
But the owner did nothing with that account for one day.
Next day, they blockced that account.
Permantly suspended.

Most suspensions come from breaking the rules. It's important to keep all payments and chats inside Upwork.

As I said, there was no chatting, because joined 1 day ago.
but they blocked.

Sorry to hear. Maybe you can open a support ticket and provide ID verification.
Honestly, this is not my account. My friend's account.
We sent ticket.
But they say that they can't tell the reason.
That's all.

Yeah, it happened to me too. It was kinda expected since I was searching for gigs related to OnlyFans, lol.

It's not very common, but my understanding is that they run something like a point system, beyond a certain threshold if you violated their rules you'll get suspended.

I’ve seen a lot more random suspensions recently, and many seem triggered by “trust & safety” signals rather than anything obvious (IP/location switches, using automation tools, sudden profile changes, even logging in from multiple devices). If it’s a first-time suspension, most people I know got reinstated after submitting ID + explaining calmly. Did they ask you to verify identity or is it a permanent restriction notice?
Permanently suspended message.

Can I succeed in upwork platform as a Nigeria using Nigeria account?

This happened to me this week. i have sent appeal letter but no response.

Upwork is on a killing spree lately. It’s mostly automated; their AI flags everything from mismatched IP/DNS to copy-pasted proposals. If you're using a VPN or a cheap VPS, you're basically asking for a ban. Stick to residential IPs and keep your profile activity 'human'—too many applications in a short burst is a death sentence now

They suspended my account after 5 mins of creating it without giving me any reason.
